Hollywood, Florida, December 2014
We took a cruise out of Florida in December 2014 for the anniversary of our first date. With lots of time off for my injured foot over the last two years there hasn’t been a whole lot of fun in running for me. We came into Hollywood a day before the cruise was to depart and I took advantage of the beach for an early morning run. It was slow going but I’m scheduled for surgery in Dallas in January. It was such a stunning view. I still wasn’t running very fast but at least when you run slowly you can enjoy the view!
Friends joined us on the cruise and it was a good thing because the weather and stops were both less than ideal. We had to miss at least one stop because of storms and twice we landed at the weather meant that we just sat at a bar and had drinks and then returned to the ship. We played a lot of cards and still managed to have a great time.

It’s been about six months since my foot surgery and I’m starting to jog a little on the boardwalk. It’s slow going with lots of walking breaks but at least I’m out there. Afterwards my foot is quite swollen and needs ice and rest. I’m getting a new puppy in July and next year I hope to run with her a lot.

Running has proven to be elusive since my surgery in January. I decided to try some physio on it and the clinic has an Anti-Gravity Treadmill. On it you get zipped into a bag that supports your weight and then reduced it to as little as 40%. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to fly along at a six minute mile. I did this for about six months until my sciatic nerve demanded my attention and I broke away from this indoor training. Sad because it was so much fun.
